Jovita Pereira has proposed an experiential dining experience, The Spice Retreat, for Sheffield’s Chapel Walk shopping arcade. The space is transformed into an intriguing and educating experience where the design and cooking of the meal forms as much a part of the gastronomic journey as eating.
The dining experience begins with the diner entering a space filled with aromatic plants where they can pick and choose their own spice combinations. The table is inspired by the dining table at the spice garden in Babylonstoren, with a 200mm channel running along its centre, filled by filtered rainwater. The noise of the flowing water provides a sense of calm and the sense of being surrounded by nature.
Pereira’s projects attempt to capture the beauty and antiquity of simple objects and places. Her aim is both to provide a design solution and represents its user and owner with its unique narrative.
