For her final project, Fran Stinton took inspiration from women in Japanese society. Exploring the timeline of a woman’s life and taking inspiration from the types of clothing worn throughout childhood, transitioning into adolescence and eventually adulthood. During her research she discovered that many Japanese women throughout history have campaigned for independence and have fought against traditional female stereotypes such as pressures to get married and have children rather than exploring their own desires and aspirations. Fran also took inspiration from the armour and protective clothing worn by female samurai warriors in pre-modern Japan.
