Liv Dobson has created a sonic, spatial experience in Sheffield’s Megatron (the culverted river Sheaf which runs beneath the city centre). The designed experience takes the form of a kind of guided walking meditation that evokes a deep transitional journey into the human psyche, providing portals of access to realisations and profound learnings of interrelation and interdependence. Dobson sees the increasing disconnection between humans and their environment in modern Western civilisation, through the lens of the Native American idea of Wetiko – a mental virus that causes one-sidedness or dominance of the rational, intellectual mind. For Dobson, “to dispel this mental virus, a deep re-evaluation of what it is to be human is required”.
