Telling the story of a young whale’s final moments, Zoey Xi’s picture book highlights the devastating effects of plastic pollution on the marine eco-system. Xi’s book presents the story of  a young whale that is slowly dying from plastic waste, the last scene it sees before it dies and its fleeting memories. The destruction of the marine life chain by human-generated plastic waste is not only a crisis for marine life, but also an act that endangers humans themselves: plastic waste in the ocean, finds its way into the human food chain. Plastic debris is one of the main causes of whale deaths – with the animals swallowing thousands of plastic particles and debris every day.
