Joseph Ngoma’s Zambian roots and the influence of David Adjaye, Lisa Folawiyo, and Wakaba Mutheki’s beautiful face art have inspired his proposal for a Batik and Ankara Fabric Measuring Store in a former Sheffield industrial building. The store is a space that people can come and explore the wide range of high-quality fabrics represented through designed clothing and sheets. The site provides tailoring services as well as the ability for users to order fabrics direct.

Through live projects Ngoma has worked on eco-friendly design and user experience. He gained work experience through building performance consultancy, Ollio and participated in a collaborative design pitch for Hippo Digital with members of DLA Architects using virtual reality as the tool to display the proposed design. He is currently working for Birmingham-based Sculpt Design, where he has been working on several residential and commercial projects building site models using ArchiCad, to interpret the customers’ vision.

Ngoma says

‘I remember what my life was like in Zambia and I understand what my life is now in England. My work is a conversation about the fusion of cultures and experiences.’
