Olivia Downton’s illustration explores the interaction between creatures and their environments. Drawing inspiration from local flora and fauna as much as mythology and she fuses these concepts together to create new worlds, characters and narratives. She blends traditional and digital methods giving an organic quality to her richly textured landscapes of crowded foliage which echo the unruly patterns of nature. Her work centres around characters, whose personality infuses her creations, from children’s books to packaging to sculpted figures.
Downton is an illustrator and character designer based in South Yorkshire. Since completing her degree, she has been working on freelance projects and building her creative portfolio. Her pseudonym aloepup combines her major influences of plants and animals.
