The concept of Beth Lomas’s project came from her hobby researching her family’s history. She noticed she only had official documents and hardly anything about their character. She found learning about her grandparents and seeing old photos that were handed down to her surreal. She felt a longing to know more. She thought about how family photos offer a glimpse into people’s worlds. And that we find ourselves romanticising the past: never quite seeing the bad and ugly, just the good times.
