Ella Crowley’s design outcome was her response to a brief set by 21GRAMS, as part of the D&AD New Bloods 2022 competition. The purpose of the brief was ‘Help caregivers prioritise their own health’, and Crowley’s solution, the “Take Five” carer subscription box, aims to help with carers’ mental health, and to improve their working lives. Her research came from speaking to, and spending time with a close relative, who cares for another member of the family with dementia at their home. Carers don’t tend to have a lot of free time, so the box is designed to make it easier for them to enjoy the little time they have for themselves.
The “Take Five” box would be delivered weekly to caregivers, and it includes a booklet, and one of two other items, relating to different themes that can be chosen by each carer, so that each box would be tailored to their personal preferences. The themes include Reading, Food and Drink, Puzzles and Games, Health and Wellbeing, and Arts and Crafts. The colour scheme chosen aims to reflect calming colours through pastel shades to help carers relax whilst taking a break. A website mockup was also designed, this would be the place where carers would sign up for the box, and enter their details, as well as choose which themes they would like for their items.
