The Green Eyed Monster is a brief that challenged George Wheeler-Thompson to create a narrative pitch, focusing on including and normalising queer characters and themes. From this, they created the pitch for a graphic novel “Henbell”, where Wheeler-Thomson aimed to bring in characters who had a variety of diverse gender identities and sexualities that were expressed clearly but for characters who were more than just this, fully developed.

HENBELL SYNOPSIS:

“Henbell” is a developing fantasy graphic novel. It is set in the town of Murfole in the world of Evenden. It follows Fray, a potions student at the University of Murfolke, who is finding it difficult to fit in with their classmates and struggling in their classes. This is until they meet Nor the bubbly, excitable, over the top girl who works at the apothecary store. However, Fray has a dark secret: they are a necromancer, a branch of magic outlawed in Evendale, and in moments of panic or fear it becomes harder and harder to hide this immense power.

As Nor and Frays relationship begins to grow, their childhood best friend Ovid becomes more and more tempted to reveal their powers to the headmaster of The University of Murfolke.
