Hannah Morley has proposed a sensory healing space designed around ‘healing’ the mind and bodies of families and patients who have been discharged from hospital intensive care units. The brief was a personal one, created after Morley experienced the intensive care unit first hand during her second year at university. Based in a repurposed historic industrial building in Sheffield, The Healing Centre is a social café, sensory break out space and healing outdoor garden, offering accommodation for families who are not from the area, activity classes such as art and music therapy.
Morley is fascinated by the properties of materials and how these work within spaces to help people ‘heal’ and for people with mental health issues. She plans to start a Master’s degree in design in January to develop and research materials in healing design for trauma patients and people experiencing mental health issues.
