The ‘Zoom Boom’ project was inspired by the anxieties surrounding beauty standards, and the desire to look perfect on camera. Within her research, Jenny Brown discovered that cosmetic surgery, (including fillers), has become more popular than ever during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since people would rarely leave their homes, they would only see friends and family online in photographs, or during video chats on sites like Zoom. Brown found that people became increasingly insecure about their appearance, as they wanted to look better for the camera.
As part of her project, she researched and developed character designs, experimenting with digital illustration and traditional brush strokes as well. Brown also created a final poster design, which portrays her character and includes encouraging typography. Her work strives to give people body confidence and spread the message that it’s okay to look natural.
