BCK2000’s Zine explores the re-emergence of the Y2K aesthetic that has been trending on social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram. The zine was originally inspired by Dalia Hesham Attia’s final year critical research project, which examined the early 2000s in terms of fashion, body image, social media, and past and current trends.

The resurgence of the Y2K aesthetic captures Gen Z’s embrace of early 2000s fashion. Social media aficionados will likely have seen this trend flooding their feeds, evoking a delightful sense of nostalgia. Born in 2002, Dalia witnessed the early to mid-2000s through the eyes of her younger self, idolising the teenagers she saw on TV, particularly on the Disney Channel. Now, as a young adult, she revels in the freedom of self-expression and fashion experimentation, indulging in a style that sparks nostalgic joy.

Within this vibrant zine, readers will view three stunning photoshoots showcasing Gen Z’s interpretation of the Y2K aesthetic, based in the heart of Sheffield. All outfits were a mix of personal items and the models’ items, creating unique looks that suit them best. Alongside the visuals are insightful spreads and personal recommendations. To top it off, there is an exclusive interview with the upcoming model and vintage entrepreneur, Abbie Porter from PORTER VINTAGE.
