Medal(ing) is a publication which documents a series of polymer clay artefacts, created to record elements of the design processes of first-year Jewellery, Materials and Design students, during the development of a medal for an annual competition set by the British Art Medal Society.
Alongside discussions with students and metal casting demonstrations, Charlotte Kilgallen documented her experiences in a range of formats including photography, sound and drawing. She later collated her findings to produce a series of polymer clay artefacts which documented the design processes of various students through textures and image transfers. 18 of the artefacts were then photographed and formatted to produce the publication, which includes an index spanning the front and back pages where each of the artefacts is displayed in the form of an outline and numbered using roman numerals.
