‘considerations’ was inspired by Bethany Howarth’s critical research project titled ‘influencer implications: how influencer culture influences overconsumption’. Her critical research project explored how consumers are bombarded with shopping hauls and sponsored ads on social media, and how this disrupts what consumers see as healthy purchasing habits. Influencers and fast fashion brands have normalized massive clothing hauls, which leads consumers to make impulsive buying habits and overconsume clothing. The main issues in her critical research project talks about influencer traits, para-social relationships and overconsumption.
This led Bethany to her final project, that focusses on sustainability, overconsumption and waste. The main aims for her final project are education and awareness, so she chose visual based outcomes to support this. She wants this project to influence how to slow down and be more considerate about the choices we make and how they impact person and planet.
