EPISODES is an exploration of the relationship between television and fashion trends. Consisting of three photoshoots, a printed publication featuring interviews with industry experts, and a charity sale event, the project aims to showcase the importance of costume design and its influence on real-world style.
Chalmers has been inspired by fashion on television from a young age and wished to take the opportunity to explore this relationship further throughout her final project.
Focusing on three culturally relevant television series from the late 90’s to the present day; ‘Sex And The City’, (1998-2004), ‘Gossip Girl’ (2007-2012) & ‘Euphoria’ (2019-), EPISODES is a journey highlighting the lasting impact television is able to have on fashion. The direction of the photoshoots intends to juxtapose the romanticism of the television-inspired styling with the reality of everyday life in Sheffield, demonstrating how through our fashion choices we are all able to be the main characters of our own story.
The printed coffee-table style publication details this journey, whilst providing additional context through styling moodboards for each series as well as relevant and engaging interviews with writer and editor, Tyler McCall and costume designer, Charlotte Svenson.
Her final project was consolidated with ‘EPISODES x St Luke’s’, a charity sale event supporting local Sheffield-based charity St Luke’s. Aiming to highlight television’s impact on fashion trends, the sale featured clothing inspired by the fashion of a range of television series. The event presented a unique opportunity for consumers to purchase clothing in a way that is directly organised and influenced by television, emphasizing its indelible impact on fashion trends. Chalmers sourced the stock from St Luke’s charity shops and donated all proceeds from the sale to the organisation, managing to raise over £400 for an incredibly important cause.
