Gegorgia Rogerson’s X’ania is a fashion zine foretelling a story of another universe; one where humans have evolved to breathe underwater, where technology has flourished without destroying and where humans dedicate their lives to caring for their earth. The narrative revolves around one character, starting off with curiousity as she enters this new universe and watch her evolve into a X’ania being. 3D elements are incorporated into the post-production to create a crossover of digital and real life. The story is narrated through a story written in X’ania language, with some narration of fairy tales throughout.
This publication’s imagery was inspired by Petra Collins and Alexa Demie’s Fairytale book. Grimes and Doja Cat’s music videos were also influential to the costume and narrative of the zine. The zine layout was influenced by a Ukrainian Fairytales book that Georgia used to read as a child. The concept of IRL X URL was formulated by dissertation research.
The entire publication is incredibly important to her; seeing a vision come together after months of research and concept development – she’s created something she’s incredibly proud of. It is a homage to her Ukrainian family heritage, and thus is a very personal one.
The concept begins the conversation of what our world could have been before humans destroyed it. There are hopes that people will read the zine and look at how they treat earth; if they are helping to destroy or preserve it.
