Doze is a multifunctional piece of furniture, designed by Ashleigh Davies, that saves space acting as a dog bed and a side table, with a removable tray for working or eating.
The main aim of this product is to be a safe space in the home for dogs, to reduce stress for dogs who have to spend time alone. Doze also aims to fit well into the home, and remain stylish, with parts such as the bed cover being customisable to suit different surroundings. This product is made mostly from plywood in the interest of being sustainably made.
Since lockdown, dog owners are far less comfortable leaving their dogs home alone, as many dogs have developed separation anxiety, and being left alone for extended periods of time causes dogs to display signs of stress, this includes panting, pacing, aggression etc. Data collected in a survey showed, answering when dogs would show signs of distress, nearly 45% of all dogs showed signs of being very distressed before and during being left isolated at home.
Doze acts as a safe space for dogs as it is semi enclosed giving a dog the opportunity to burrow. The bed is made from memory foam as this is hypoallergenic, and much better for a dog’s joints and bones as it evenly distributes their weight. The bed is also raised off of the ground which is beneficial for temperature control for the dogs as air circulates around and underneath.
Every feature of Doze has been considered to benefit both the pet and owner. The product links pet and owner together with it being multi-functional, which will mean the pet will associate their safe space with their owner, ultimately making them feel more calm when alone.
