‘Nest’ is a modular seating system created as Elizabeth Williams’ final university project, using sustainable materials and circular design. It is inspired by midcentury forms and utilises natural, long-lasting materials in order to reduce the increased material waste that has become prevalent in the furniture industry.

In the UK, only “17% of disposed furniture is recycled, making a significant contribution to our Carbon Footprint.” This is due to the cheap materials and fast processes the fast furniture industry have adopted to keep up with rapid trend cycles, making furniture unable to be recycled or reused and increasing the amount of waste we produce.

After both primary and secondary research was conducted, Elizabeth created the brief: “to design a modular seating system, using circular design and sustainable materials, to illustrate the growing issue of fast furniture.” ‘Nest’ is the product in response to this brief.
