JerEcan: portable electric vehicle range extension

The JerEcan is a portable, off-grid range extension solution for battery electric vehicles (EV). Providing up to 20 miles of range in just 37 minutes, the JerEcan can supply compact home charging for city commutes or be carried on board for journey range extension.

Automotive electrification is a non-negotiable part of the world’s future and our lives. With governments of both high- and low-income nations having agreed to zero transport emissions by 2040, the JerEcan offers a feasible solution to reducing range anxiety and supporting the sustainable development of on-grid EV charging infrastructure.

Twelve in-series, automotive grade lithium-ion batteries provide 4kWh of power storage with an output of 7kW to allow the JerEcan to discharge at type-2 fast charging rate. This allows on average, 20 miles of range to be discharged in 37 minutes. Using the in-built charging cable, the JerEcan can then be conveniently recharged in 1 hour and 30 minutes from a 240v home socket.

The JerEcan’s ingress preventing construction gives it an IP65 level of protection from dust and liquid jets making it capable of being used in all outdoor environments. Extensive real-world testing drove the JerEcan’s ergonomic user interaction points, with handle geometry optimised for carrying comfort. The JerEcan’s exoskeleton ensures robust and durable protection, giving users confidence in all conditions.

With EV ownership growing year on year, the JerEcan paves the way for portable off-grid range extension in support of a sustainable automotive future.
