Perfectly Imperfect is all about being your most authentic self without the need to construct unattainable beauty standards that are being presented by different forms of media. Georgia Butler‘s final project aim was to take the first steps in breaking down the normalities of beauty standards in mainstream media and create a resolution for this issue.
Throughout her project, Butler has presented different ideas through photoshoots. Shoot one’s aim was to represent the changes women/girls make to themselves to fit in, which are often related to different forms of media. The story starts with natural beauty, then moves into contouring, corsets and measuring and finally the biggest step of plastic surgery. This was done to create a dramatic effect to show the real long-lasting dangers behind these ideals. Shoot two’s aim was to show the damages these standards can do to mental and physical well-being. Shoot three’s aim was to show the most authentic self with no need to conform to these standards.
