The Sustainable Gardener – Automated Bioponic Grow House

The Sustainable Gardener Project by Max Sudbury features an all organic indoor garden providing high quality food with low maintenance. Plants can be left to cultivate on their own for over 3 weeks and will send notifications of the exact needs of the Grow House to a chosen device via a tailored app. With a unique ability to grow using no chemical fertilisers, pesticides nor fungicides the user can choose what plants to grow with a variety of seed packs available – These range from small herbs such as Cress to fruiting cordon like Cherry Tomatoes.

Witnessing interaction of existing indoor gardens and conducting market research, the plants were harvested and the product was often put out of sight until the next seed kit arrived. Why are all these gardens treated as appliances rather than ornaments? The design solution evolved taking inspiration from raw Japanese woodwork and simplicity seen in beautiful Scandinavian interiors creating the founding product.
