¿SIT? / ¿COLOURED?

These are the first paintings in Chesachi Hani-Okoroafor’s ‘SIT’ series. Chairs have been a big inspiration this year. They’re still recovering mentally from the solitude of lockdown, and on reflection, the majority of their university experience has taken place sitting at a desk.

The chair is both their safe space and the thing holding them back from living.

A Portrait of Shame

A Portrait of Comfort

A Portrait of Anxiety

A depiction of isolation in liminal spaces, physical isolation, mental isolation, emotional isolation.

They only have themself to talk to, but they don’t want to look at themself right now. They don’t have anything to say to them.
