Specialist Children’s Chair

An increasing number of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) are being taught in mainstream classrooms without quality, affordable specialist products. This product was designed by Mya Faulkner to meet the additional needs of children with SEND.

The chair includes a rocking feature that children can use to receive sensory feedback, as well as a hanging rail for other specialist products such as ear defenders and weighted vests.

The potential benefits and affordability, as well as the opportunity to make a difference for children not educationally succeeding, is of paramount importance in this project, in order to reduce the inequalities currently existing in schools. This project explores how design can problem solve and have an impact on vulnerable children.

The chair is made from sustainable materials and has a customisable colour feature, making the product more personal to the child.
