Fabric given to Jamie Fenny by her grandmother, “soaked in family history”, was taken out into the landscape to find new ways of representing landscape through abstraction. Each mark painted on the fabric suggests a movement of a running river, gust of wind or drop of rain.

“The anthropomorphism of the running water of the river determined the abstracted outcome of the pieces, beautifully painting the movement of the materials which writes my time and experience amongst nature”.

Fenny’s work uses abstraction and gestural marks to explore the relationship between material and artist. Her recent works explores the beauty of nature and outdoors experience though mark making, colour experimentation, texture and line, physically working within and with the landscape she represents abstractly.
