Why Didn’t You Come Sooner?

This abject installation utilises body horror to explore the indignation of a neurodivergent woman advocating for herself medically. This site-specific work takes over a hidden space for visitors to stumble upon, where the walls are lined with what appears to be oozing, rotting, bleeding flesh. Inspired by Marina Abramović and Ulay’s Imponderabillia (1977), Malcolm invites viewers to enter into the space, squeeze themselves between the viscera, smell the latex, trace the intestines with their fingers, and poke at protruding pus.

She remarks “I find it a great shame to visit a fantastically tactile exhibition where the work is surrounded by tape or rope, blocking me from experiencing it.” Using polystyrene, tissue paper, and latex, she has created a theatrical and gory mess clawing its way out of the white gallery space.
