‘The Cat on the wall’ is a series of paintings in different frames along two walls and a shelf, each painting has been specifically chosen for the frame its in, all being second hand, collected from charity shops or from my family. The paintings started out as drawings in my sketchbook, observing my cat in different places and poses around the house, his presence brought a sense of comfort and calmness to the everyday, where we can sometimes feel stressed and overwhelmed, the innocence of an animal can make you see things a lot simpler. I collected twenty-eight picture frames and created paintings based of my cat, in the same style as my doodles, and chose each pose and paper based on each individual frame, this way they would all feel purposeful and unique in their own way. To me this piece speaks as a gallery made version of my sketchbook and encapsulates the feeling of drawing from the comfort of my home, in the same place my loved ones have been and a place filled with memories and emotion.
