This installation reflects on current club culture and how being under constant surveillance in an environment of phone scrutiny suppresses self-expression in young people, offering them an inauthentic experience. By recreating a 1970s inspired room using mixed media, I aim to challenge this fear. In the space, a camera and monitor acts as CCTV in an area that reminisces an era, that I envy, where music alone encouraged a care free experience. The intentions of this is to prompt viewers to reflect that the right type of environment is what impacts genuine self-expression in social settings.
